Dear WPLGASC Member,
This is a reminder that we are shutting down wplga.com. Our new website is wplga.net. Please check it out if you haven't already. It is very user friendly, and we hope you enjoy the new look. Any board member can be contacted on the wplga.net website. Should you need to contact a board member go to headings at top, click on it, then find the board member you wish to contact.
WPLGASC Membership
As of today, we have over 1,680 members and 86 clubs. I'd like to welcome the ladies of California Country Club, Temecula Creek and Rancho San Joaquin to the WPLGASC family as new clubs for 2023. You can contact Janet Herbold, Secretary/Membership, here if you have any questions.

President's Message
Bye Bye 2022! It’s my honor to serve again as your President, and the many good memories from last year make me hope 2023 will be another year with plenty of fun experiences shared with my golfing community. But first off, I want to offer a sincere Thank You to all of our members; your continued support of the programs we offer is why we exist.
As you will notice in the attached minutes from the Annual Meeting, we have many new board members this year: Susan Shimizu – Treasurer, Clarice Olive – Rules, Dawn Geery – Inland Division Rep, and Lydia Salcido – Northern Division Rep. I’m confident they will continue what their predecessors and all of the board does so well: providing you with some of the best golfing opportunities available. We look forward to seeing you at our 2023 events, starting with the Kickoff event on January 30. Be on the lookout soon for the registration form for the Far Away from Home in late August at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Please contact me, Susan Jett, here, if you have any questions.
89th Annual Meeting

Major Tournaments
I want to wish you all a Happy New Year! It is my hope that 2023 brings you health, happiness and lots of “WPLGASC Golf”. Whether it be “Team Competition”, “Association Day Tournaments”, “Major Tournaments” or a trip to Colorado for our “Far Away from Home Tournaments”. It takes all of your participation to make these events successful.
Our first Major Tournament is the Kick Off which will be held at Rio Hondo Golf Course in Downey on January 30, 2023. The mail in dates are January 2 through January 6. You will find the flyer here, and entry form here. If you can't make the tournament you can come for lunch and meeting and that form can be found here.
If any of you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me here. Lou Ann Reichling, Major Tournaments Chair.
Monthly Association Day
Many of you are eagerly anticipating the start of Team Play as we enter the New Year. If you love the competitive aspect of Team, I encourage you to give Association Days a try. On the second Thursday of every month, we offer fun tournaments at six courses. Participation in Association Days earns you credit for entry into the very popular and competitive Major Tournaments, most notably the 2-day Palm Springs and Singing Hills Tournaments in the first half of the year. So, if you like representing your club and the spirit of competition, know that WPLGASC offers more than Team Play to satisfy that competitive drive!
I want to make sure you know that you can register for Association Day with less than a foursome. If you submit a single, twosome or threesome I will pair you up with other entries to create foursomes. I have several ladies who submit entries as singles every month, and they almost always make it into the tournaments. They are getting out there, meeting other WPLGASC members and having a blast. So please don’t hesitate to sign up even if you don’t have a foursome.
The bi-annual awards payouts for July through November went out to the home clubs in early December, so if you won during those months, you should have received your award by now. The next Association Day is February 9, and the mailing dates are January 16–19. Details can be found here and entry form is here. If you haven’t seen the results from the December tournament, they are posted on the new wplga.net website or you can see here.
I look forward to a great 2023 serving you as Monthly Tournament Chair. I appreciate your enthusiastic participation in WPLGASC events. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me, Donna Buxton here.
Rules
Together, the United States Golf Association (USGA) in New Jersey, and the Royal and Ancient (R&A) in Scotland, govern the game of golf worldwide and write and interpret the rules of golf.
The USGA Rules of Golf (now 24 Rules and thousands of Decisions on the Rules) have been enforced during every game played by the Women's Public Links Golf Association of Southern California since its beginning in 1933.
Golf is a game of honesty and integrity and the ONLY game where you call a "penalty" on yourself when you have broken a rule, even when no one is looking. It is your responsibility to count all of your strokes, including a swing-and-a-miss (a whiff or a chunk), anyplace on the golf course. A player or players who deliberately fail to apply or agree to ignore any rule are subject to disqualification.
Etiquette is part of the game: Don't talk when other players are hitting the ball; don't walk on other player's line on the green; don't stand behind a player when they are teeing off or putting; rake the bunker; put sand in divots in the fairway; repair ball marks on the green. Be ready to hit when it's your turn!
WPLGASC will continue to give all competitors a Rules sheet, and a yellow card with WPLGASC Local Rules on it, at every event. Be sure to read them!
It's only a game. Have fun. Enjoy the day, play by the rules and post your adjusted score. "Establishing a Handicap: No more golfing for fun." (Anonymous)
If any rules questions, please contact me, Clarice Olive, Rules Chair, here.
2023 Calendar
You can find the 2023 Calendar here. Previous calendar had the wrong dates for the Far Away from Home tournament in Colorado. Correct dates are on this calendar. Remember this is a work in progress and subject to changes.
Wishing you all a safe and Happy New Year !!
