MAJOR TOURNAMENTS
The 2024 Eclectic Tournament took place June 11 and 12 at Singing Hills in El Cajon. We enjoyed two days of beautiful weather and saw some incredible golf played. It was so nice to hear that our members enjoyed the casino much more than expected. Congratulations to our Over the Field Gross winner Sarah Yan from Costa Mesa, who shot an awe-inspiring 78. Also impressive was Sheree Hurley of Trilogy Resident, our Over the Field Net winner, who shot a sizzling 60 net. This was the first WPLGASC major tournament that paid ties. This change resulted in 19 additional awards to the players totaling $1,115. Congratulations to all our winners!
Our next major tournament is the Senior Tournament at Tustin Ranch Golf Course, and this tournament is dedicated to honoring our Super Senior members. I want to make sure you know however, that this tournament, like all WPLGASC tournaments, is open to all members! You don’t have to be a senior to play. This tournament is a little different in that we flight the tournament by age brackets, and if necessary we flight within each age bracket by handicap if we have a lot of participants. I expect this tournament to be very popular, but our seniors 70 and over need not worry; you are automatically accepted into the tournament! Details are on the home page of the WPLGASC website. Participation points will be used if we have too many registrants for the field under 70 years old. I look forward to seeing you there!
For the Senior Tournament you will receive an invitation via email on July 7. Registration opens July 8-12. All you will need to do is click a link in the email and it will bypass all those screens that have caused us so much trouble in the past and go straight to the registration process. The Participation Points file has been updated on the WPLGASC website.
The date range for the Participation Points is July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. I look forward to seeing you at upcoming WPLGASC events. Please don’t hesitate to contact me Donna Buxton at wplgamajors@gmail.com or (714) 585-5879 if you have any questions.
MONTHLY TOURNAMENTS
Congratulations to Tisa Franklin from Simi Hills who got a hole in one at Olivas Links, hole number 5, during our June Association Day. Tisa will receive a $300 check from WPLGASC.
As you know we started monitoring start and end times during our June Association Day. We will look at the times should a course complain about “Pace of Play”. Most courses starting in July will be prepaid only, one check is needed for both the entry fee and the prepayment fee. You no longer need to write two checks.
July’s game is Partner Better Ball, eight strokes difference between partners. If you are out of a hole, you may pick up. If your score is being used, you must hole out or take the 10-stroke maximum.
As a reminder, you do not have to sign up as a foursome during our monthly Association Day tournaments, we will fill foursome as needed.
Please remember that attendance at our monthly Association Day tournament is a great way to earn participation points towards acceptance in the Major tournaments.
Thank you all for your participation in our WPLGASC Events. If you have any feedback or questions please contact Kathy Takemura, Monthly Tournament Chair, here.
RULES
Rule 14.1c Cleaning Ball
When you lift your ball, when are you allowed to clean it? The easiest way to remember this is to know the four times cleaning is not allowed: (Must mark before lifting)
1. To check if ball is cracked or cut. (Rule 4.2c(1)) Lifting Ball to See If Cut or Cracked).
2. When someone asks you to lift your ball because it interferes with their play. (Rule 15.3b (2) When Relief Is Allowed from Interfering Ball).
3. To see if it lies in a condition where relief is allowed and it turns out that relief is not allowed. (Rule 16.4 Lifting Ball to See if it Lies in Condition Where Relief Allowed)
4. Trying to identify the ball. If the ball is really dirty you can clean only enough to identify a marking on the ball. (Rule 7.3 Lifting Ball to Identify It).
So, if you clean your ball under these four situations, it is a one stroke penalty. A ball lifted from the putting green may always be cleaned (Rule 13.1b Marking, Lifting and Cleaning Ball on Putting Green).
Should you have any questions you may contact Rules Chair, MariLu Villasor here.
