MEMBERSHIP
It has been brought to my attention that some of you sending in new memberships don't have the newest fillable Maintenance Form. You can find it here and also on the website wplga.net under Membership. This form is very easy to fill out and makes it easier for me to read if its typed rather than hand written. You may also note that we have put our Bylaws on the website should you ever need to refer to them. If you have any questions please contact Janet Herbold, WPLGASC Secretary/Membership here.
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
I am so happy that March has arrived which brings in the first day of Spring and the beginning of daylight savings time. It is the ideal time to play golf and I am hoping to see as many of our members playing in the Monthly Association Day Tournaments as possible. I am also looking forward to April which brings us to the AFH Tournament in Palm Springs with the beautiful desert scenery and warmer climate.
I want to remind you that March 3 is the deadline to register for the FAFH Tournament at Crystal Springs Resort in New Jersey. The event flyer is available on the WPLGA website, or you can view it here and you can download the registration form here.
I am enjoying serving as your President and I look forward to meeting as many members as possible in the coming months. I am available for any questions, suggestions and yes, I do want to hear constructive criticism as well.
Please contact me, Lou Ann Reichling, here if you have any questions.
MAJOR TOURNAMENTS
Our next major tournament is the Away From Home Tournament at Indian Canyons Golf Course on April 8 & 9. This is always a very popular tournament and I am sure that we will have to accept players based on participation points, so I hope you are signing up for WPLGA events to earn those points! Registration will open Monday, March 4 at 12:00 am and closes on March 8 at midnight. You can find all the details about this event on the WPLGA website here. Here are a few tips for registering:
Again, this tournament will accept players based on participation points. Members receive one point for every Association Day, Major Tournament and Far Away from Home attended; two points for Team Play. The points used for this tournament will be for those earned between March 1, 2023 and March 1, 2024. Starting this month you will be able to see how many participation points you have by selecting the Participation Points link on the WPLGA website Home page then look in Major Tournament section.
I look forward to seeing you at upcoming WPLGA events. Please don’t hesitate to contact me, Donna Buxton at wplgamajors@gmail.com or (714) 585-5879 if you have any questions.
MONTHLY TOURNAMENTS
Our first Association Day was February 8, 2024. Due to the rain damage on some golf courses Sierra Lakes and Sand Canyon were cancelled. The Legends course was rescheduled to February 15. I apologize for the delay in getting the results out for February and hope you all are patient with me as I learn my new responsibilities.
Congratulations to Susan Kim from Brookside who had a hole in one at Strawberry Farms and collected $300.
We had another overwhelming response for March’s Association Day where we needed to get additional tee times from the courses.
March Association Day courses include: Chester Washington, Dos Lagos, Alhambra, Mile Square, Tierra Rejada and Santa Maria Country Club. Alhambra, Mile Square and Santa Maria are prepaid.
The game is 3 best 3 pars, 3 best 4 pars and 3 best 5 pars minus 1/2 handicap paying out gross and net. Holes being used for the game must be holed out. You can pick up on holes not being used.
April Association Day courses include: Chalk Mountain, Sterling Hills, El Dorado, Tijeras Creek, San Dimas Canyon and Tahquitz Creek Legend.
Thank you all for your participation in our WPLGASC Events. If you have any feedback or questions please contact Kathy Takemura, Monthly Tournament Chair, here.
RULES
If you didn't see it, the question to the Rules Guy was, "My ball got dirty rolling through ground under repair. Can I clean it?"
Answer: No! "The player is allowed to clean the ball when it is lifted except in four specific cases (see Rule 14.1c), but you only get to take advantage of that penalty-free cleaning when you're allowed to lift the ball." In the question above, the player did not have the right to clean it.
"Just play the ball as it lies and right after impact yell, "Muddball!" with one's best Bubba Watson impression."
Hopefully the upcoming team play competitions will be on courses that are not muddy. Have fun and enjoy the matches.
Should you have any questions you may contact Clarice Olive, Rules Chair, here.
TEAM PLAY
Team Play 2024 begins on Monday March 4 with our last regular matches on Tuesday April 23. Finals will be held the last week in April or first week in May. All Team documents are now posted on the WPLGA website, and weekly results will be posted as well, so you can follow the progress of your home clubs. With 46 teams competing in 10 divisions, this promises to be another fun year of WPLGA Team Play. Any questions or comments don't hesitate to contact me, Karen Kiddy, Team Chair, here.
